District Early Intervention Center

The District Early Intervention Center (DEIC) is an initiative under the National Health Mission (NHM) as part of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK). Its primary goal is to provide early identification and intervention for children with developmental delays, disabilities, and health conditions.

Objective of DEIC

To ensure timely screening, diagnosis, and intervention for children aged 0-18 years, focusing on the “4D Approach”Defects at birth, Deficiencies, Diseases, and Developmental Delays including Disabilities.

Key Functions of DEIC

Screening & Diagnosis: Identifies children with developmental, sensory, or cognitive disabilities through systematic screening.

Early Intervention Services: Provides therapeutic and rehabilitative services to prevent disabilities from worsening.
Multidisciplinary Team: Comprises pediatricians, physiotherapists, speech therapists, psychologists, special educators, and other specialists.
Referral & Linkages: Connects children with tertiary care centers, hospitals, and rehabilitation services.
Parental Counseling & Support: Educates families on managing disabilities and accessing government support.
